Rolando Romero last entered the ring in May 2025 and defeated Ryan Garcia by unanimous decision. At the same time, Romero knocked down his opponent in the second round. The American started his professional career in 2016. The 30-year-old boxer has 17 wins and two losses to his credit, with 13 victories by knockout. Romero has played 96 professional rounds in total. His first defeat happened in 2022: Gervonta Davis stopped him in the sixth round in a fight for the WBA lightweight title. In 2024, Romero lost to Isaac Cruz, and the fight ended in the eighth round.

The fights that went to the judges' decision were the victory over Jackson Marines in 2020, when the interim WBA lightweight title was at stake. In 2018, Romero also went the full distance with Javier Martinez, and in 2024 he won by unanimous decision against Manuel Jaimes.  However, in his previous five fights, he has three wins and two losses, and only one of these fights ended prematurely. Romero also defeated Anthony Yigit and Avery Sparrow, and looked competitive against Gervonta Davis until the sixth round.  Romero is 173 cm (5 ft 8 in) tall. For Teofimo Lopez, the upcoming fight is an opportunity to quickly rectify the situation after an unsuccessful performance. In January 2026, the American lost to Shakur Stevenson by unanimous decision and lost his championship belts. The 29-year-old Lopez has 22 wins and two losses, 13 wins by knockout. During his career, he became the WBA Super, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine lightweight world champion. In the welterweight category, Lopez won the WBO and Ring titles after defeating Josh Taylor in June 2023.

In 2020, Lopez defeated Vasyl Lomachenko and collected the WBA and WBO lightweight championship belts. Ten months earlier, he had knocked out Richard Commey in the second round and won the IBF title. However, it was not possible to use the very first defense of the absolute champion status: in November 2021, Lopez lost to George Kambosos Jr. by a split decision of the judges. Both athletes were knocked down in that fight.

Lopez acts abruptly, actively moves and knows how to create problems for his opponent with serial work. But it cannot be called ideal. Difficulties arose in fights with Masayoshi Nakatani, Lomachenko and Sandor Martin. In 2024, Lopez first controversially defeated Jamain Ortiz, and then lost to Steve Cleggett by unanimous decision. After turning professional in 2016, the American spent 161 rounds.
