Giovanni Santillan last entered the ring in January and easily defeated Courtney Pennington after ten rounds. The main test in the southpaw's career occurred in May 2024: then he met Brian Norman Jr. in a duel for the interim WBO welterweight title and suffered his first defeat, losing by technical knockout in the fifth round.

The 34-year-old Santillan has 35 wins, including 18 knockouts, and one loss. He has played 197 rounds since 2012. As an amateur, Giovani reached the finals of the National Silver Gloves tournament in 2005. Before that, the German confidently dealt with Yoenis Telles, winning by unanimous decision and knocking his opponent down in the final round. The 31-year-old Barau turned professional in 2018 and has already completed 143 rounds. His height is about 178 cm, which is about 3.8 cm more than Santillan's. The arm span is not officially specified. The German has 17 wins and two losses, nine wins by knockout. 52.9% of his winning fights ended ahead of schedule, but six of the last eight meetings reached the final gong, and five in a row.

Among his professional achievements are the titles of champion of Germany, WBC International, IBO Continental and Europe in the first middleweight category. In 2024, he defeated Sam Eggington by majority decision in a 12-round bout for the vacant European title.
