Washington vs Detroit: prediction for the NHL game

Washington keep gaining form and got closer to the play-off zone. Team is playing much better than at the start of the season, winning six of seven latest games in regular time, the only defeat came from a game against Dallas (1:2). But after that, the Capitals secured a 5:2 victory over Toronto. 

Team's prolific scorer Alexander Ovechkin scored 35 points this season. Peter Laviolette's team scores the majority of their goals in second and third periods, but allow three goals per game. 

Detroit dropped to 11th position in the Eastern conference, despite being in a play-off zone not too long ago. Team is going through a string of poor performances, losing five games in a row. Three latest matches brought zero points to the team. Red Wings suffered home defeats to Carolina (0:1) and Ottawa (3:6), they also lost to Minnesota (1:4) in Saint Paul. 

Derek Lalonde's team was not too high-scoring in recent matches, rarely scoring more than two goals. That decline in team's offensive performance is hard to explain - the Red Wings have some solid attacking players in their line-up.
