Murat Gassiev confidently stopped Kubrat Pulev in the sixth round in December and won the WBA heavyweight title. After Alexander Usyk's refusal from the championship belts, it was the Russian who became the rightful owner of this title. In 2016, the Russian wrested the IBF belt from Denis Lebedev, winning a difficult fight by decision of the judges, and a little over a year later he effectively unified the titles, knocking out Yuniel Dorticos in the final, 12th round of the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series. The fight against Usyk ended in defeat on points, after which Murat finally moved up to heavyweight.

During this time, the Russian had eight fights. The only setback after Usyk was a split decision defeat by Otto Wallin in 2023. Gassiev is 32 years old. His professional record is 33 wins, two losses, 26 by knockout. He has been competing in the professional ring since 2011. The percentage of early wins looks especially impressive — 78.8%, and many rivals could not withstand his trademark heavy blow.

Peter Kadiru got a chance to fight for the title after Frenchman Tony Yoka was eliminated from the match. The German is approaching the main fight of his career after a confident streak of nine wins in a row. The last time he entered the ring was in May, when he defeated Senad Gashi by unanimous decision after ten rounds. Kadir is 29 years old. He has been competing in professional boxing since 2019 and managed to collect a record of 23 wins with one defeat, and completed 13 fights by knockout. Before turning professional, the German successfully competed among amateurs. His collection includes silver at the Youth World Championships, gold at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, victories at the 2014 and 2015 European Youth Championships, as well as several national titles.

Kadiru's height is just over 193 cm, and his arm span is not specified. In terms of the percentage of early wins, he is inferior to his opponent — 56.5% of the fights he won ended in knockouts. In the last two meetings, the German went the whole distance, although before that he managed to stop four opponents ahead of schedule in a row.

Peter suffered the only defeat in his career in 2022, when Marcos Antonio Aumada knocked him out 56 seconds after the start of the fight.

In 2020, Kadiru won the vacant WBC youth heavyweight belt, defeating Tomasz Salek ahead of schedule in the sixth round. He then won the IBF Inter-Continental title by knocking out Victor Emilio Ramirez in the eighth round. In the same year, 2020, the German won the German heavyweight Championship and successfully defended this title. At the same time, almost his entire career was spent on home arenas, and he performed only once outside of Europe.
