The defeat did not knock the Rockets out of the top of the Southwest Division (31-19), but it left an unpleasant aftertaste. The start of the match turned out to be sticky: two lost quarters in a row and minus 12 by halftime. In the third quarter, Houston allowed the visitors to escape even further, to +16, and only in the fourth quarter did he try to arrange a chase.

The defense turned on, the pace increased, but fouls and failures on the arc nullified the efforts. Kevin Durant became the main character — 31 points, 5 steals, confident play from the floor and from behind the arc. He pulled the attack as hard as he could, but there wasn't enough support, and the three-point duel was lost with a bang: 8 out of 23 against 17 out of 43 from the opponent.
