Slovenia suffered a 22-25 defeat to Spain in their opening Group A match. Dejan Bombac was the best player on the losing team, scoring five goals out of six shots on goal. The Balkan team qualified for the Olympics through the 2024 qualifying tournament.

This is their fourth appearance at the Games and the first since Rio 2016, where they showed the best result in the history of the team (sixth place). This is their sixth Olympic appearance and their first since Rio 2016, where they reached the quarterfinals. The Croatians have won two Olympic gold medals in the history of the national team (Atlanta 1996 and Athens 2004). Dagur Sigurdsson's men have won one world title (2003), as well as three silver and one bronze medals at world championships. Croatia has also reached the final of the European Championships three times, most recently in 2020.
