Liverpool vs Chelsea: prediction for the English Premier League match

The two Premier League giants currently sit in the middle of the table, but they both will definitely push hard to make it into the European competition zone. Liverpool won four games in row at the end of 2022, but in the new year, they suffered two defeats. After a crushing loss (0:3) to Brighton, the Reds yielded to Wolverhampton (0:1).

For Jurgen Klopp's side, the game against Chelsea will be the first home one in 2023. Liverpool have a point to prove to their fans and are highly motivated. After 18 matches, they have 28 points and 35 goals to their name. 

Van Dijk, Firmino, Diojo Jota, Diaz, and Arthur are all out injured. 

Chelsea got a slender victory over Crystal Palace (1:0) in the last match. That was only their second win in the last ten Premier League games and their second clean-sheet result in the previous 13 official games. 

The Blues are not in a very good place now, but they have a good record against Liverpool and will hope to eke out a win while the Reds are in poor form, too. Currently, Chelsea are in 10th place with 28 points from eight wins and four draws. They have scored even fewer goals than their hosts - only 22 in 19 games. 

Moreover, Graham Potter has a very long list of injured players: Kante, Sterling, Joao Felix, Pulisic, Zakaria, Chilwell, Fofana, Broja, James, and Mendy have all been ruled out.
