Hertha completely failed the previous season and finished at the lower half of the standings. But start of the current season also was unconvincing. In the German Cup Pal Dardai's team recorded a 1:0 victory over Meppen, though everyone were expected a more confident performance.

First round of the new Bundesliga campaign was also unsuccessful - Hertha was beaten on an away game by Koln (1:3) and dropped to the 15th position in the standings.

In the first round of Bundesliga Wolves also put up a disappointing performance - they missed a penalty kick in the match against Bochum and their opponents were down to 10 man, but Wolfsburg managed to score only one goal.
