In October 2025, Mackenzie Dern faced Virna Jandiroba in a duel for the vacant middleweight title and won by unanimous decision. Before that, the American managed to take two important rematches. First, she defeated Lupita Godines by unanimous decision, and then in January 2025 she dealt with Amanda Ribas ahead of schedule, forcing her opponent to give up thanks to a painful hand hold. The 33-year-old American has 16 wins and five losses. Eight of her victories were won by decision of the judges, and eight more were ahead of schedule due to submissions. 

Dern is an athlete with an outstanding Brazilian jiu-jitsu school. The American is a BJJ world champion, multiple winner of major international tournaments. In mixed martial arts, however, her performances do not always turn into a demonstration of her signature grappling. Sometimes an American woman works too long in the rack and allows her rivals to impose a scenario that is convenient for them.

At the same time, Dern's progress in percussion is really noticeable. She has become more confident in moving, works better with her hands and feels much calmer at a distance. But in the championship fight against Robertson, the question will not only be who is the best fighter. It will be much more important who can be the first to impose their own pace on the opponent.

Current form

Gillian Robertson approached the title fight in excellent condition. The Canadian won her last five fights in a row and gradually got to a position from which it was impossible to ignore her claims to the championship belt. The last victim of the winning streak was Amanda Lemos — in March 2026, Robertson took the victory by unanimous decision.

Before that, the Canadian managed to show that she knows how to win in completely different ways. She has an early victory over Marina Rodriguez, as well as success in a duel with former champion Michelle Waterson-Gomez. Moreover, Robertson is especially dangerous when she gets the opportunity to transfer her opponent to the stalls and start methodically looking for an exit to the reception.

Robertson holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and her professional arsenal also includes kickboxing skills. The Canadian does not have to rush into the fight from the first seconds — on the contrary, competent work in the rack can be the key to victory for her.

The 31-year-old Canadian has 17 wins and eight losses. Nine wins were by submission, five by judges' decisions, and three more by knockouts or technical knockouts. Now Robertson is one of the strongest representatives of the division and for the first time got a chance to compete for the championship belt.
