Zenit won gold medals in the Premier League last season, only ahead of Krasnodar at the very end. There was no total dominance of the Petersburgers in the championship, but experience played a key role at exactly the right moment. We played four matches in total: Spartak from Kostoroma (1:0) and Krylia Sovetov (3:2) won, we parted in peace with Rubin (0:0) and lost to Lokomotiv (0:2). It is characteristic that Spartak performed noticeably worse in almost all sparring matches after the break, when Carcedo released the reserves. It was in the second 45 minutes that the team conceded two goals each from the Samaritans and from the railwaymen. There is clearly no depth in the squad, and this is important now at the start of the season, since the main players are unlikely to be ready to play the full 90 minutes at a high level.
Among the summer acquisitions, we note the defender of Alaves Victor Parada. Chernov joined the Wings of the Soviets, Samoshnikov went on loan to Rubin. Bongonda, Ryabchuk, and Zabolotny left the club as free agents.

Jiku and Zorin are on the injured list. Fernandes' entry into the field is questionable.

There are still more questions about Spartak. The red and white had one sparring match against a comparable Locomotive in the class, where Carcedo's team failed in the second half and looked unconvincing in attack. Obviously, the base cannot play at a high tempo for the entire 90 minutes yet, and the reserves are not ready for important confrontations. Zenit doesn't have such obvious problems with the depth of the squad, which could be a key factor. We believe that St. Petersburg residents are deservedly the favorite among the bookmakers and will achieve victory in regular time.
