The story of the confrontation between Manel Kape and Kyoji Horiguchi began back in 2017 under the auspices of RIZIN. Then the Japanese fighter managed to impose his style on the opponent and ended the meeting in the third round with a choke hold. Almost ten years have passed since then, and during that time both fighters have changed noticeably. In his last fight in December 2025, he literally destroyed Brandon Royal, ending the fight in the first round.

This victory was his third in a row. Before that, the Portuguese dealt with Asu Almabaev and Bruno Silva ahead of schedule. In the fight with Almabaev, controversial episodes arose related to eye wounds, and the duel with Silva was also accompanied by ambiguous moments. Nevertheless, the result remains the result — Cape continues to win and remains among the main contenders of the division. The Portuguese's main weapon is percussion. For the lightest weight, he has impressive power and is able to finish the fight with one accurate hit. An additional advantage will be the superiority in arm swing. Kape knows how to work from a distance, feels the moment well for a counterattack and constantly exerts pressure. At the same time, questions about his struggle still remain.

In a duel against Muhammad Mokaev, he found himself on the floor several times after takedowns of his opponent. Although in the fight with Almabaev, the defense against transfers looked much more confident. It is this aspect that can become decisive in the upcoming confrontation. Cape currently holds the second place in the UFC light heavyweight rankings. He holds the RIZIN Fighting Federation and Knock Out Championship titles. The Portuguese's stats are impressive: 20 wins and only seven losses. Moreover, he scored 13 of his successes by knockouts, three by decision and four by submission. 

Current form

Kyoji Horiguchi is also going through a great career period. After returning to the UFC, the Japanese quickly reminded everyone why he had been considered one of the best representatives of the lightweight categories for many years. In November last year, he confidently dealt with Tagir Ulanbekov, demonstrating a high level of wrestling and ending the fight with a choke hold. A few months later, he won another important victory, defeating Amir Albazi. Many mistakenly perceive Horiguchi solely as a wrestler. In fact, his arsenal is much wider. The Japanese feels comfortable in the stand, has high speed and is capable of seriously shaking any opponent.

However, the main advantage remains versatility. Unlike many wrestlers who act straightforwardly and are constantly looking for a transfer to the stalls, Horiguchi perfectly combines punches with passes to the legs. He constantly changes the rhythm, forcing his rivals to make mistakes. That's why defending against takedowns against him becomes a much more difficult task. This can be a serious challenge for Kape.

If it was easier to predict the opponents' intentions against Mokaev or Almabaev, then Horiguchi knows how to hide his attacks until the last moment. His work on the transitions between stance and wrestling is considered one of the best in the division. The Japanese is currently ranked fifth in the UFC rankings. He holds a black belt in Setokan karate. During his career, he managed to become a champion of the RIZIN Fighting Federation, Bellator MMA and Shooto. He has 36 wins and five losses to his credit. The statistics are especially impressive: 15 wins by knockout, 15 by decision of the judges and six more by submission and five defeats.
