Moreover, Omsk opened an account in the first period, and at the very beginning of the second they realized a numerical advantage. The pressure of the Locomotive did not bring results, and a minute before the end of the third period, it seemed that the outcome of the match and the entire series in favor of Avangard was beyond doubt. However, two shots by Maxim Shalunov from Alexander Radulov's passes – the first 33 seconds before the final siren, and the second 11 seconds later – sent the game into extra time.

In the middle of the second overtime, Rushan Rafikov's long-range shot reached the goal, which set the final score 3:2, 3-2 in favor of Lokomotiv. Having made such a fantastic comeback in Omsk, Yaroslavl repeated the plot of the two previous cup series between the same rivals in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons, when, leading 3-1 after four games, they allowed the hawks to even the score in the series and extend it to the seventh game. The first overtime did not bring results, and in the second Avangard, who was clearly not in the best emotional state, sagged slightly physically, Yaroslavl acted at higher speeds, stayed in the opponent's zone for a long time and won rebounds more often. In one of the positional attacks, Rushan Rafikov transferred the series to Yaroslavl.
