In the quarterfinals, Magnitogorsk fought a much more dangerous opponent, Torpedo. Nizhny Novgorod's ornate attacking hockey created few problems for the much more composed Metallurgist. Razin's team started the series with two wins at home, and then consolidated their success away. In the fourth match, the guests earned a significant advantage and held it until the third period, however, in the final twenty minutes they slowed down a little, allowing the opponent to reduce the gap to zero, and as a result they had to suffer an insulting defeat in overtime (2:3). However, this setback did not affect the Magnitogorsk team in any way, and in the next meeting they managed to snatch a decisive victory in extra time with a score of 4:3.
