Sweden has assembled an excellent squad for this tournament at the expense of the leading NHL stars. Predictably, the team made a successful start at the Olympic Games and defeated Italy 5-2 in the first match. The Italians miraculously avoided complete failure due to the amazing play of the goalkeepers, as the Swedes scored 60 shots on their goal in three periods. It seemed that the national team, at least, would be able to give a decent rebuff to Finland, but this did not happen. In the second match of the group stage, Tre Krunur unexpectedly lost by themselves with a three-goal difference (1:4). The team again relied on the attacking line and created constant pressure on the Finns, but the defense gave way. Goalkeeper Gustavsson showed his worst side, reflecting only 86% of shots.

Few people could have expected that after the second round of the Olympics, Slovakia would confidently take the lead in the Group B table. In the opening match, the team fought a clear favorite in Finland and defeated the opponent with a score of 4:1. The Finns underestimated their competitor, which they managed to take advantage of. Slafkowski, the main scorer of the national team, played well, scoring a double and giving an assist. It turned out to be much more difficult to consolidate success, although Italy stood in the way. In just a few minutes, the opponent reduced the gap to a minimum, but still the Slovaks held the advantage, snatching Victoria with a one-goal difference (3:2).
