The second period went without goals, but the tight defense and goalkeeper John Gibson confidently held the front. In the third period, the Wings controlled the game, and at 19:29, Raymond scored an empty-netter after Larkin's pass. Gibson made 21 saves and scored his fourth shutout of the season, giving the team a clean sheet. This victory allowed Detroit to remain at the top of the Atlantic Division with 72 points.
