Edmonton scored an important and really nervous victory over Washington with a score of 6:5 in overtime on January 25 at Rogers Place. It all started with Evan Bouchard's goal, but Alexei Protas quickly regained his balance. In the second period, Bouchard again put the hosts ahead, but pucks from Justin Surdif and Anthony Beauvillier made the score 3-2 in favor of the guests. The third period turned into a shootout.

Bouchard scored a hat-trick, Dylan Strem scored the majority, Connor McDavid equalized, Connor McMichael made it 5-4, and Zach Hyman saved the match at the end of the third period. In overtime, McDavid scored at 0:47. Goaltender Connor Ingram was substituted after missing three goals, and Jarry blocked 13 of 15 shots. Anaheim scored a strong-willed 4-3 overtime victory over Calgary a day later at the Scotiabank Saddledome. In the first period, the hosts took the lead thanks to goals from Jonathan Huberdeau and Hunter Brzuzevic. In the second period, Anaheim equalized with a double by Beckett Senneck. In the third, Matt Coronito made the most of it, but the visitors found the answer again. In overtime, Sennek scored a hat-trick after going two to one.

Lukas Dostal played a great match, deflecting 34 shots. Sennek became the main character of the evening, scoring his first NHL hat trick. In the Pacific Division, Anaheim is third with 59 points (28-21-3), and Calgary is seventh with 48 points (21-25-6). This victory made it possible to reduce the gap from Edmonton.
