In March, at UFC 313, Ankalaev already showed Pereira who is the boss in the octagon. The unanimous decision of the judges — and the Brazilian left with nothing. Many expected Magomed to strangle his opponent in the stalls, like a python prey, but no. Ankalaev decided to play fair, in a stand-up position, and chased Pereira around the cage as if he had missed the last bus. The punches flew, Pereira was careful, and Mahomed pinned him to the net so that the Brazilian seemed to remember his native Sao Paulo.

This victory was Ankalaev's 14th in a row. A record? 21-1-1, with one caveat in the form of no contest. The only defeat? It was the same fight with Paul Craig, where Magomed slapped for 14 minutes 59 seconds, but at the last second he got caught on submission.

And what about Pereira? For him, that March evening was a cold shower. The record in MMA slipped to 12-3, and it was the first defeat after Israel Adesanya knocked him out, forcing him to say goodbye to middleweight. Jonathan, of course, is a guy with character, but his magic seems to have dimmed. Too much fighting, too much rage, and now he's not the elusive ghost he used to be.  Ankalaev didn't give him a chance in the first fight. Without a single takedown, Magomed turned Pereira into a target, exhausted him in the clinch and forced him to run around the octagon as if a marathon was taking place there.
