Current form

Rennes had serious problems in their penalty area last season, which is why the management and coaching staff, led by Habib Biye, focused on strengthening their defense. To do this, Quentin Merlin from Marseille and Lilian Brisen from Brest were acquired by the team. 25 million euros were paid for these two players. In fact, these acquisitions should close the departure of Adrian Truffert to English Bournemouth and Lorenzo Assigsson to German Stuttgart.

Rennes had a good pre-season campaign. Six matches were played, in which four draws were recorded, and the team won and lost once each. The team scores well, but concedes no less. If you go into details, nine goals were scored in friendly games and the same number were conceded. The team has lost only one of the last five matches on its own field, but the bookmakers still expose the team as an underdog.

Rennes has already played with Marseille twice this year. It was during the 2024/2025 Ligue 1 season. The team lost both matches. First, there was a fiasco on the home field (1:2), and then on the road (2:4). The statistics are not encouraging for the upcoming match, especially considering that the opponent clearly did not pass in the game plan.

Current form

Marseille had a high-quality last season and as a result became the vice-champion, losing only to PSG, which swept away everyone in its path. In the offseason, the team significantly strengthened in the offensive line. Igor Pixado, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Timothy Weah and Angel Gomez were acquired. This is, in principle, logical, because in the coming season the team will compete in the Champions League, and it is necessary to play well on several fronts at once.

Roberto de Derbi has been at the helm of the club for more than a year, and he gets along well with all the players. As part of the preparatory campaign, Marseille played six matches and did not lose in any of them: three wins and three draws. At the same time, it is impossible to ignore the fact that the defensive game leaves much to be desired. For all the friendly matches played, only the reserve team of the Spanish Real Sociedad failed to score. If this aspect cannot be adjusted, then the defensive game can become a real problem and negate the efforts of the attacking players. 

At the end of last season, Marseille had real problems playing away. From February 22 to mid-April, the team suffered only defeats. But since April 14, a win-win streak has begun, which has already lasted four games in a row. We're playing well against Rann at Roazon Park, too. In the last four games, the club has suffered only one defeat, with two wins and one draw.
