Davide Nicola, who had saved Salernitana last season, was eventually fired, and Paulo Sousa was appointed as his replacement.
In the first game under the new head coach, Salernitana lost 0-2 to Lazio, but then picked up points with a 3-0 victory over Monza and a goalless draw with Sampdoria. Following these results, the team sits in 16th place in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
