Croatia national team was considered one of the main favourites in their group and lived up to the expectations. Despite their underwhelming performance in the game against Morocco (0:0), Zlatko Dalic's team left no chance to Canada (4:1) and advanced into the playoffs. But in the match against Belgium the Chequered ones just barely managed to hold a goalless draw. 

In the round of 16 Croatia met up with Japan and were considered clear favourites. But the Chequered ones conceded first and lost the first half to Japan. Ivan Perisic managed to score the equalizer, but Croats were careful enough and made it to the penalties, when Japan suffered a defeat. 

Brazil national team was considered the main favourite of the group and the tournament overall. Tite's team was stronger than Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. In the first match team secured a 2:0 victory over Serbia. After that, team managed to snatch a victory from Switzerland thanks to Casemiro's powerful strike. 

A 0:1 defeat to Cameroon in the third match didn't change anything for Selecao - they finished 1st in the group and got drawn to South Korea for the first play-off round. Brazil put up a flawless performance, scoring four goals in the first half. In the second half Selecao were not so powerful on the offense, but a 4:1 victory saw them advancing into the quarter-final.
