Before the start of US Open, Ajla Tomljanovic put up a great performance at Cincinnati, she reached the quarter-final starting from qualification. Australian player extended her success in New York, she reached the third round, repeating her previous year result. 

Victories were not easy to get for Ajla. In the first round she recorded a victory over Muchova in straight sets (6:3, 7:6). After that, she barely beat Rodina, who had a long time without match practice (1:6, 6:2, 7:5). Tomljanovic made eight double faults and lost seven games at her serve in the match against Russian player. Ajla also made 57 unforced errors. 

Despite failures in recent tournaments, Serena Williams is quite successful in New York. American player has six US Open titles in her career and she proves that it is too early to write her off. 

In the first round Williams secured a victory over Kovinic (6:3, 6:3). After that she managed to beat Kontaveit in three sets (7:6, 2:6, 6:2). Serena is in a great physical shape - she was faster than Anett in the decisive set, avoided serious mistakes and deserved a victory.
