Djokovic vs Kokinakis: prediction for the Wimbledon match
Novak Djokovic started his Wimbledon 2022 campaign by defeating Kwon Soon-woo in the opening round. He needed four sets to overcome the Korean athlete (6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4). Before the start of the current Major, the Serb played only one match on grass - he defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Hurlingham exhibition tournament (6-2, 6-1).
Thanasi Kokkinakis was up against Kamil Majchrzak in his opener. The Australian got his first-ever singles victory at the grass-court Major (7-6, 6-2, 7-5) and progressed to the second round. Kokkinakis played one match on grass before Wimbledon, too - he lost to Otto Virtanen (3-6, 6-7) in the first round of the Surbiton Challenger. The athlete's best result in 2022 is winning the Adelaide International 2.
Djokovic played 1 tie-break in his last 5 matches.
In 3 of Kokkinakis' last 5 matches, more than 9 games were played in the first set.
Djokovic didn't show his best tennis in the first round against Kwon and made too many mistakes, which the opponent took advantage of. We believe the Serbian star will still pick up momentum, but right now Kokkinakis can maintain the handicap of eight games and win a set. We will be backing the underdog here.
Our prediction - handicap (+8) to Kokkinakis
Djokovic was not particularly impressive in the first round. Kwon could easily have won not one, but two sets. Kokkinakis should be able to create problems for the Serb today. Take the over.
Second prediction - total over 30 games
