In the previous edition of the Nations League Belgium reached the final four, where team suffered a defeat to France (2:3) in the semis and then lost the third place to Italy (1:2). After that defeat Belgian side lost the top spot in FIFA rankings.

In the first round of the Nations League Polish side secured a 2:1 victory over Wales at home.
