Newcastle vs Liverpool: prediction for the English Premier League match

Newcastle United bowed out of both cups early. In the League Cup, they were defeated by Burnley, and then they lost in the FA Cup to Cambridge United. Eddie Howe's team was slow to start its Premier League campaign, too, but after the winter break, the team climbed rapidly up the standings.

After 34 rounds of the Premier League, the Magpies sit in 9th place on the log with 43 points to their name. In the last two matches, Newcastle recorded victories over Crystal Palace (1:0) and Norwich City (3:0).

The hosts will be without Fraser, Hayden, Wilson, Trippier, and Lewis.

Liverpool won six games at the Champions League group stage and cruised past Inter Milan in the first round of the playoffs (2:1 on aggregate). In the quarterfinals, the Reds overcame Benfica (6:4 on aggregate) and beat Villarreal (2:0) in the first leg of the semifinals on Wednesday. 

Jurgen Klopp's side has already won the League Cup and will attempt to win a quadruple - Liverpool's chances in the Champions League are high, they have reached the final of the FA Cup, and can snatch the Premier League title from Manchester City. 

Liverpool are currently 2nd in the Premier League with 79 points from 33 games, just one point behind the defending champions. In the last two matches, the Reds beat Manchester United (4:0) and Everton (2:0).
