Southampton vs Chelsea: prediction for the English Premier League match

Southampton have had an overall good season. They enjoyed an impressive run in the FA Cup and prevailed over Swansea (3:2) and Coventry City (2:1) on the way to the quarterfinals. The Saints confidently beat West Ham (3:1) in the last 16, but in the following round, they lost to Manchester City (1:4). 

Ralph Hasenhuttl's men have played 30 games in the current edition of the Premier League. The team sits in 12th place in the table with 36 points. After three consecutive defeats, Soton finally picked up a point in the last match as they got a 1:1 draw at Leeds United.

Lyanco and McCarthy are sidelined through injuries and won't help their team against Chelsea this weekend.

Chelsea are in poor form and will be hoping to bounce back this weekend. In the Champons League, the Blues finished second in Group H and beat LOSC Lille in the first playoffs round (4:1 on aggregate). On Wednesday, however, they lost to Real Madrid (1:3) at home in their first-leg quarter-final fixture.

Thomas Tuchel's side is currently in 3rd place in the Premier League standings. They have earned 59 points from 29 games. Chelsea can boast the second-best attack in the league - they have registered 58 Premier League goals this season. After a victory over Newcastle (1:0), the Blues suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Brentford (1:4).

Earlier this season, the team reached the final of the League Cup, where the Londoners lost to Liverpool on penalties.
