Napoli had a fantastic start to the season and won the first 8 games. This was the best start among the teams from the Top-5 European leagues. However, in the 9th round, Luciano Spaletti's men lost their impressive winning streak and recorded a goalless draw with Roma. On matchday 13, the Neapolitans suffered their first defeat, to Inter Milan (2:3). 

Napoli are still top of the table in Serie A, but the other title contenders came very close: AC Milan are 1 point behind, Inter Milan are losing 2 points to Napoli. 

Atalanta, on the contrary, had a slow start to the season, but they gradually picked form, and now Gian Piero Gasperini's men are 4th in the standings, losing 5 points to their current hosts. Technically, they still can win the title, but this will require a lot of effort in the second half of the season. 

The 5th Roma is 6 points behind, which leaves Atalanta some room for error. However, the competition for the European football is too tight, and contenders won't be forgiving. In the last round, Atalanta crushed Venezia 4:0 at home, thus recording their fourth league victory in a row.
