Cagliari are having a poor season. Leonardo Semplici was sacked after the first three rounds, but Walter Mazzarri hasn't been able to improve the team's performance. In the first game under the new manager, Cagliari came close to defeating Lazio away, but they only got a 2:2 draw.  

Currently the Rossoblu are second-to-last in the Serie A standings, with only 7 points from 13 games, which is the same as the last Salernitana and four points behind the safety of the 17th line. In the last round, Cagliari got a hard-fought draw with Sassuolo (2:2). The hosts are on a winless streak of five games, which they will be looking to interrupt today. 

Salernitana were considered one of the main outsiders from the start of the season. In the first rounds, the team looked very disappointing, and the club management made a decision to replace Fabrizio Castori with Stefano Colantuono as head coach. The Garnets, however, were beaten 2:4 by Empoli at home in the first game under Colantuono.

Salernitana played one high-quality match back in October, when they beat Venezia with a score of 2:1. In the last round, Salernitana lost 0:2 to Sampdoria, thus suffering their third defeat in a row and dropped to the bottom of the table.
