Bayern Munich had a flying start to the season. Julian Nagelsmann's charges are the leaders of Bundesliga and top the group in the Champions League. Bayern were considered the main favourites of their group from the start, but their 3:0 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou in the opening game still came as a surprise. 

In the second round, Bayern left no chance to Dynamo Kyiv. They scored five unanswered goals against the Ukrainian champions. The most difficult match for Bayern was their game against Benfica in Lisbon. The hosts defended a goalless draw until the 70th minute, but in the final 20 minutes, Bayern churned out four goals. 

Benfica weren't a favourite to qualify for the playoffs before the start of the season, but Barcelona's crisis gifted them such an opportunity. Jorge Jesus' men hoped for a win in their opening game against Dynamo Kyiv, but failed to score a goal (0:0). In the second match, Benfica created a real sensation and upset Barcelona with a score of 3:0. They didn't allow the formidable Catalans to take a single shot at their goal. 

However, it was impossible to do the same against Bayern Munich in the third match. Benfica suffered a 0:4 defeat from the Germans, and are currently 2nd in the group table. The 3rd Barcelona are only 1 point away though, so Benfica have no room for error.
