Moscow tournament is the first one for Aryna Sabalenka after her positive coronavirus test, which forced her to sit out for a month. First match against Ajla Tomljanovic was a difficult one. Lack of match practice affected Sabalenka's performance, especially in the first set.

In the first set Belarusian player made three double faults, she made a break, but then failed to win a game at her serve. But Sabalenka managed to improve her performance and eventually won the match in three sets (6:7, 6:4, 6:1). If Belarusian player will keep the same level of performance as she showed in the third set, her opponent won't have many chances for a success.

Ekaterina Alexandrova already played two matches in Moscow, because she started from the first round. But her first round opponent, Ons Jabeur, withdrew herself from the match during the second set.

But in her second attempt Alexandrova managed to win the game at her serve and didn't let Kalinina to come back into the game. In the second set Ukrainian player was unable to fight (6:4, 6:1).
