Sporting vs Ajax: prediction for the Champions League fixture

Sporting were phenomenal last season and won the Primeira. Right from the start they took the lead and did not let anyone close to the first place. Porto finished second, five points behind the champions, and Benfica lost nine points to Sporting. In the new season, Ruben Amorim's team keeps it going. They have already won in the Super Cup match, beating Braga with a score of 2:1.

The Lions got three victories in a row at the start of the season: over Vizela (3:0), Braga (2:1), and Belenenses SAD (2:0). Sporting slowed down a bit in the last two rounds, scoring two draws with Famalicao (1:1) and Porto (1:1) With 11 points, the White-Greens are on the fourth line in the table, four points behind the leader, Benfica.

Ajax did not experience any problems in the Eredivisie last season. Erik ten Hag's charges were ahead of the second PSV by 16 points after the first half of the season, and comfortably won the league in the end. However, at the start of the new season, the club from Eindhoven took revenge in the Super Cup, beating Ajax 4:0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Once again, Ajax are the main contenders for the champions title in Eredivisie, but so far they are on the second line in the table. PSV haven't lost points yet, while Ajax got a draw with Twente (1: 1) in the second round.
