Hardly anyone could predict that the 104th WTA player Greet Minnen will reach the third round of US Open. Before that she participated at New York tournament only twice and never advance past the first round. Moreover, this time Minnen was beaten by Marino in the final qualifying round, but she still got into the main draw as lucky loser.

In the second round she recorded a victory over Davis in straight sets (6:4, 6:4). Since the start of the year Andreescu won 15 matches, but only in one of them she recorded a victory with a handicap over five games. Most of Andreescu's matches were extremely contested.
