Minnen vs Samsonova: will Russian player record a victory?

Greet Minnen failed to qualify for US Open through qualification. In first two qualifying matches Belgian player recorded victories over Lazaro Garcia and Hontama, but she was beaten in the final by Marino (3:6, 6:3, 2:6). She qualified for the tournament as lucky loser and she didn't disappoint.

In the first round Minnen played against Podoroska and was considered a clear underdog. But she managed to snatch a 6:4, 1:6, 6:3 victory. She was not looking confident in that match though - she lost three games on her serve and made 37 unforced errors.

2021 season is a special one for Liudmila Samsonova. Russian player won her first WTA title at Berlin, she also reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon. As a result, she rose to the 52nd position in WTA rankings and has a chance to break into the Top-50 in case of a successful performance at New York.

In the first round of US Open Samsonova played against the British player, Boulter. Samsonova recorded a confident victory (6:3, 6:2). She put up a brilliant performance on her serve - opponent couldn't make a single break.
