Monaco had an unsuccessful start of Ligue 1 season. In the first match Monegasques were beaten by Lorient (0:1) and then they suffered a defeat in the match against Lens (0:2).

They got off to a better start in the Champions League. In the first qualifying stage Royal club defeated Sparta Prague, but then suffered a defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk and went to the Europa League.
