But all golden medal hopes were broken after the first match, where Barty was beaten by the Spanish player, Sara Sorribes Tormo (4:6, 3:6). In the previous week World No. 1 didn't perform at Montreal tournament. Lack of match practice affected negatively on Barty's performance.
In the first round of Cincinnati tournament Barty experienced problems in the match against Watson. Ashleigh took the lead since the start of the match and it was looking like Watson won't avoid a beating. But Barty almost blew her lead and her victory was not so convincing (6:4, 7:6).

BelarusVictoria Azarenko missed the Olympic Games and concentrated on preparation for the American hard tournaments. It looks like it was the right decision for the Belarusian player.
In the previous week Victoria reached the quarter-final of Montreal tournament, where she was beaten by Sabalenka (2:6, 4:6). Azarenka is also looking confident at Cincinnati. In two first matches of the tournament she didn't lose a single set to her opponents, beating Samsonova (6:2, 6:3) and Riske (6:2, 7:5). A former World No. 1 is on a great shape now, so she should be able to put up a fight against Barty, just like it happened at Miami tournament (1:6, 6:1, 2:6).
