Marseille vs Bordeaux: no surprises?

Marseille finished the previous season at fifth position in the standings. In 38 rounds team recorded 16 victories and 12 draws, which brought 60 points and a ticket to the Europa League. Unfortunately, Olympique failed to find resources to fight for the Champions League. 

In two last matches of the previous season White-Blues beat Angers (3:2) and splitted the points with Metz (1:1).

Team started the new season with a new manager, Jorge Sampaoli. Squad was also strengthened with a signing of Gerson from Flamengo for a fee of €25m.

First round of the new season finished with a victory over Montpellier on away (3:2).

In the previous season Bordeaux were probably the most inconsistent team of Ligue 1. Six-time French champion had a good start, which saved the team from relegation at the conclusion of the season. In 38 rounds Girondinsrecorded 13 victories and six draws, which brought 45 points and a spot in the second half of the standings.

At the finish of the season team recorded three consecutive victories - over Rennes (1:0), Lens (3:0) and Reims (2:1).

Club appointed the new head coach, Vladimir Petkovic. Squad was strengthened by Ricardo Mangasfrom Boavista and Gideon Mensah from Salzburg, both of whom were signed as loan players.

In the first round The Marines and Whites were unexpectedly beaten at home by Clermont (0:2).
