Anderson is slowly returning to his former shape. Two weeks ago, the South African won the tournament in Newport, beating Jenson Brooksby in the final (7-6, 6-4). Not all matches at that tournament were easy for Anderson, but he prevailed on class and experience. Thanks to this successful performance, Kevin rose to 75th place in the ATP world ranking.
It is worth mentioning that Anderson has played at the Atlanta Open six times in his career. In 2013, he was even one step away from winning the trophy, but in the decisive match he lost to John Isner.
Kyrgios has played very little this season. After the elimination in the third round of the Australian Open, Nick didn't appear anywhere else. We are not sure what he was up to, but he returned to the courts in June to play at Wimbledon. Nick passed Ugo Humbert and Gianluca Mager, but he did not finish the third round match against Felix Auger Aliassime. He withdrew from the match while the score was 6-2, 1-6.
Kyrgios was supposed to represent Australia at the Olympics, but he refused this honor. He said he was not ready for this, and instead applied for the Atlanta Open.
