Giorgi vs Svitolina: will Elina advance into the semi-final?

Camila Giorgi is one of the unexpected guests in the quarter-final of the Olympic tournament. In two of her three matches at Tokyo Italian player was an underdog by the bookmakers' choice, but she won all matches without losing a single set.

In the first round Camila beat an American player, Brady (6:3, 6:2). In the second round she recorded another confident victory, this time over Vesnina (6:3, 6:1). Round of 16 match against Karolina Pliskova was the most difficult one for Giorgi. But she still recorded a victory in straight sets (6:4, 6:2).

Unlike her opponent, Elina Svitolina had a difficult road to the quarter-final. All matches of the Ukrainian player ended with 2:1 victory on sets. 

We should note that in first two matches Elina's opponents were not particularly strong - Siegemund and Tomljanovic. But both of them managed to put up a good fight against Elina and matches were extremely contested. In the round of 16 Svitolina had to play against Maria Sakkari. It was a nervous and intensive match. Elina had to mount a comeback after a loss in the first set and for another time she proved her mental toughness (5:7, 6:3, 6:4).
