Yulia Putintseva won only one WTA tournament in her career. It happened in 2019 on a clay tournament at Nurnberg. Two years after Kazakhstani player has the opportunity to fight for her second trophy.

Due to her inconsistency, Putintseva's way to the Budapest final was not so confident. In first two matches Yulia beat Gorgodze and Konjuh in straight sets. For victories over Kozlova (6:7, 6:0, 7:5) and Galfi (6:2, 3:6, 6:2) she needed three sets. Putintseva's main weapon is her great receive. Anhelina Kalinina has never won a WTA title. But in 2021 Ukrainian player won four ITF tournaments and overall she has 14 ITF titles in her career. 

Kalinina approached the Budapest tournament with 10-match winning streak and managed to extend her string of victories. Anhelina beat each one of her opponents with a 2:0 margin on sets. Her semi-final opponent Collins had to leave the match due to injury. By the way, in the first set of the semi-final Kalinina blew a 5:1 lead and had to play a tiebreak. Just like her final opponent, she is lacking consistency.
