France built on their success in the League of Nations: their opponents in the group were Portugal, Croatia, and Sweden. The main struggle was between France and Portugal, and the Portuguese were weaker - the French won the head-to-head game with a score of 1: 0 in Lisbon.
The start of qualification for the World Cup was not very successful - at home, France could not beat Ukraine. However, a 1:1 draw in the opening game did not affect the team's spirit in any way. Thanks to victories over Kazakhstan (2:0) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:0), the French got on the first line in the group and are already four points ahead of Ukraine.

Several seemingly irreplaceable players lost their spot in the national team, for example, Thomas Müller. Germany managed to pass the qualification for the European Championship without major setbacks - the Germans won their group, beating the second Netherlands by two points.
But in the League of Nations, the German national team was in for failure. In the group with Spain, Switzerland, and Ukraine, the Germans were underwhelming, scoring only two victories in six games and finishing the tournament with a negative goal difference. The devastating defeat from Spain with a score of 0:6 in the last round demonstrated that Germany struggles while going through a generation change.
At the start of the qualification for the World Cup, Germany won two games in a row over Iceland (3:0) and Romania (1:0). However, they got another upset from North Macedonia - in Duisburg, the Germans were defeated 1: 2 by the Macedonians. After three rounds Bundesteam is on the third line in the group.
