Denmark national team got qualified to the Euro 2020 from an easy group. Danes were playing against Switzerland, Ireland, Georgia and Gibraltar. The Red and Whites eventually finished second, only one point behing Switzerland. Denmark also played well in the Nations League - they lost the first place to Belgium, but beat England and Iceland to the second spot.
Denmark played even more solid in the start of the 2022 World Cup qualification - Kasper Hjulmand's side got into the group with Scotland, Israel, Austria, Faroe Islands and Moldova. After three matches Danes are on the top of the group with nine points, they are already four points ahead of Scotland, now it will be incredibly hard to catch up to Denmark.
Before the start of Euro 2020 Denmark played two friendly matches. In the first one they had a draw against Germany (1:1) and then beat Bosnia and Herzegovina (2:0).
Finland national team was not considered a favourite of their qualification group. Markku Kanerva's side was competing against Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Armenia and Liechtenstein. But despite all the predictions Eagle-owls finished second in the group with 18 points, beating Greece by four points, Italy pulled ahead by 12 points.
After a successful qualification for the Euro, Finnish side also performed great in the Nations League. A ticket to League A was lost to Wales, but they managed to keep their spot in B-tier, beating Ireland and Bulgaria.
In the World Cup qualification Finnish players had two matches, in both of them Eagle-owls avoided defeat. In the first match they had a 2:2 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the second one they snatched a point from Ukraine, a match in Kiev finished in a 1:1 draw. So far Finns are on a third spot in the group, but they are only one point behind the second position with one game in hand.
In a friendly matches before Euro 2020 Markku Kanerva was set to experiment and results were not that good - defeats to Sweden (0:2) and Estonia (0:1).
