Azarenka vs Kuznetsova: who is better prepared for the start of Roland Garros?

2021 season is not going great for Victoria Azarenka so far. She played only five tournaments, but she definitely wanted to participate in more tournaments. Moreover, Belarusian player had withdrawn from three tournaments. Main reason was the back injury.

Azarenka played only one match on clay during this season. She beat Alexandrova at Madrid in three sets (7:5, 3:6, 6:1). Victoria hasn't played for a month and it's hard to say if she is ready for Paris tournament.

Svetlana Kuznetsova's situation during this season is no better than Azarenka's. Russian player had only 11 matches since the start of the season and managed to win only five of them. Svetlana hasn't played on clay during this season. Her last match was on March 24, at Miami, where she was defeated by Alize Cornet (6:2, 2:6, 1:6) in the first round.

Svetlana surely won't have many chances at Paris because of lack of match practice. In last three years at Roland Garros Russian player failed to get past the first round. In this year she got drawn to a tough opponent. Azarenka defeated Kuznetsova in last five head-to-head matches. In 2021 opponents played against each other at Doha on hard surface - Victoria won that match with ease (6:2, 6:3).
