We can remind that at the Spanish capital Kerber beat Alize Cornet (6:2, 7:5) at first and then, after the withdrawal of Simona Halep, advanced to the round of 16. German player failed to advance to the quarter-final, losing to Jelena Ostapenko (6:4, 3:6, 4:6).
Two last Paris tournaments were unsuccessful for Kerber. In 2019, she was beaten by Potapova in the first round (4:6, 2:6) and in the previous year she lost to Juvan (3:6, 3:6). Without a doubt, now Angelique will be motivated to break this string of losses.
